Jammu, July 4 (JKNS): The third batch of 4,812 pilgrims on Saturday left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra amid elaborate security arrangements, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS, the batch departed in two escorted convoys towards the twin base camps of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district to undertake the pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine.

The officials said the latest batch includes 966 women pilgrims.

The annual 57-day Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra commenced on Friday from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal.

Meanwhile, over 12,000 pilgrims offered prayers at the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine on the opening day of the pilgrimage, officials said. (JKNS)
