Kalidas Theatre’s Dastar Receives Wide Appreciation at GDC Bemina

Srinagar July 8 (JKNS): Renowned cultural institution Kalidas Theatre Srinagar successfully staged the acclaimed Kashmiri play Dastar on Wednesday July 8 2026 at Government Degree College (GDC), Bemina under the Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme supported by the Ministry of Culture Government of India.

 

The performance witnessed an enthusiastic response from students faculty members theatre lovers and members of the artistic community who appreciated the powerful presentation and meaningful message of the play.

 

Penned by the legendary playwright Late Prof. Hari Kishan Koul the play was directed by noted theatre director Javid Ahmad Khan whose creative vision and stagecraft brought the production to life.

 

Through its compelling narrative and emotionally charged performances Dastar highlighted important social issues while reflecting the rich cultural ethos of Kashmir.

 

The cast delivered remarkable performances earning appreciation from the audience for their convincing portrayal of characters.

 

The play featured talented actors Farooq Sheikh Md. Ashraf Khan, Ashraf Khan Sanya Mir and Javid Khan whose performances added depth and authenticity to the production.

 

Speaking on the occasion Director Javid Ahmad Khan said that theatre remains a powerful medium for preserving culture encouraging social awareness and inspiring meaningful dialogue.

 

He emphasized that productions under the Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme provide a valuable platform for experienced theatre practitioners to mentor young artists while safeguarding the rich legacy of Kashmiri theatre.

 

Established in 1975 Kalidas Theatre Srinagar has been one of the leading theatre institutions in Jammu and Kashmir consistently working to promote dramatic arts, nurture emerging talent and preserve the region’s cultural heritage through quality productions and training programmes.

 

The audience applauded the cast and crew for delivering a memorable theatrical experience praising the production for its artistic excellence strong direction and impactful performances.

 

The successful staging of Dastar once again reaffirmed Kalidas Theatre’s commitment to promoting theatre as a powerful medium of cultural expression and social awareness in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The smooth execution of the event was efficiently managed by Stage Manager Mushtaq Wani, whose backstage coordination contributed significantly to the success of the performance. (JKNS)
