Srinagar, July 11 (JKNS): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, has issued fresh instructions to all States, Union Territories and Central Government Ministries directing strict compliance with existing orders governing the singing and playing of the National Anthem and the National Song across the country.

According to an official communication dated July 9, 2026, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, issued by the Public Section of the Ministry of Home Affairs, copies of the Government’s orders relating to the National Song and National Anthem have been circulated to all Chief Secretaries, UT Administrators and Secretaries of Central Ministries for immediate implementation.

The MHA said the orders comprehensively specify the occasions on which the National Anthem and National Song are required to be sung or played, as well as occasions where they may be rendered. The instructions also identify events where both are to be performed twice at the beginning and at the conclusion of the programme.

The Ministry reiterated that whenever both the National Song and the National Anthem are rendered together, the National Song must always be sung or played first, followed by the National Anthem, in accordance with existing government orders.

Taking note of the practice in several States where State Songs are also played during official functions, the MHA clarified that whenever a State Song is performed along with the National Song and National Anthem, both the National Song and National Anthem must necessarily be rendered together, with the National Song preceding the National Anthem.

The Ministry also emphasised that the correct script, text, diction and pronunciation of both the National Anthem and National Song must be followed strictly during all official and public functions.

To facilitate proper implementation, the MHA said the authentic text and approved pronunciation of both the National Anthem and National Song are available on the Ministry’s official website for reference by all authorities and institutions.

The Ministry has requested all State Governments, Union Territory Administrations and Central Ministries to issue necessary instructions to institutions and organisations under their jurisdiction to ensure strict adherence to the prescribed guidelines. (JKNS)
