Karnah, July 16 (JKNS): The ongoing wedding season in Karnah Valley has brought joy to many families, but the steep rise in the prices of essential wedding-related items has placed a heavy financial burden on the common people, particularly those from economically weaker sections. Residents say that the prices of daily necessities as well as items required for weddings—including clothing, footwear, utensils, meat, vegetables, and other essential goods—have increased significantly, making it extremely difficult for middle-class and poor families to arrange the marriages of their children.

According to local residents, the continuous rise in prices has badly affected household finances. Many families are unable to meet the expenses associated with weddings through their limited incomes, while some have been forced to borrow money to perform these important family obligations.

Speaking to media outlet,JKNS, retired Master Bashir Ahmed Khan, a member of civil society, and social activist Mohammad Hafeez Mir described the sudden and unchecked increase in the prices of essential commodities during the wedding season as a grave injustice to poor families. They alleged that some traders and shopkeepers were taking advantage of the seasonal demand by charging excessive prices, leaving the weaker sections of society to bear the greatest burden.

They urged the district administration and the concerned departments to closely monitor market prices, strengthen price-checking drives, and take strict action against profiteering and overcharging so that people can receive much-needed relief.

They further warned that if timely measures are not taken, the rising cost of essential goods will push more families into financial distress. Expressing hope that the administration will treat the issue with seriousness, they called for immediate intervention to ensure that poor and middle-class families are not deprived of celebrating their children’s weddings with dignity.

Several local residents also appealed to the authorities to establish an effective mechanism for monitoring market prices and to take firm action against hoarding and unfair profiteering, so that every family can celebrate life’s important occasions without being overwhelmed by financial hardship.
