New Delhi, July 24 (JKNS): Engineer and education reform advocate Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday lat night ended his nearly 25-day hunger strike at a hospital after meeting Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh, bringing an end to a prolonged protest over alleged examination irregularities and student-related issues.
According to reports, as per news agency JKNS, Wangchuk broke his fast in the presence of the two Union Ministers after discussions at the hospital, where he had been shifted following health concerns.
Wangchuk had begun his indefinite hunger strike on June 28 in solidarity with students protesting alleged paper leaks, including the NEET controversy, and demanding accountability, reforms in the examination system and protection for peaceful student protesters. His health deteriorated during the fast, following which he was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police and later transferred to Medanta Hospital after a Delhi High Court order.
Before ending his fast, Wangchuk had stated that he wanted an assurance that no punitive action would be taken against student protesters and that their concerns regarding the education system would be addressed.
