Sopore, Aug 3 (JKNS): A young bakery worker is feared to have drowned while bathing in a jeel at Singhpora in Pattan area of north Kashmir on Monday, prompting a rescue operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and local volunteers.
The missing youth has been identified as Murtaza Bashir, who was working at a local bakery shop in Singhpora.
According to local residents, he slipped into the water while bathing and failed to resurface.
Soon after the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police, assisted by local volunteers, launched a rescue operation to trace the missing youth.The operation was continuing at the time of filing this report.
The incident marks the third drowning case reported in North Kashmir within the last 24 hours.
On Sunday, a 6-year-old girl from Bandipora district slipped into a stream, and her body was later retrieved.
In another incident, 13-year-old Furqan Rafeeq Hajam of Wadoora Payeen, Sopore, slipped into the Puhroo River. Search operations in that case are still underway, with Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, MARCOS, the Indian Army, Civil Administration, and local volunteers continuing efforts to retrieve the body.
The series of incidents has raised concern over water safety across the region.
Authorities have urged the public, particularly children and young people, to avoid venturing into rivers, streams, lakes, and other water bodies, especially during the ongoing monsoon season when water currents can be swift and unpredictable. (JKNS)
