Srinagar, Aug 4 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association on Tuesday launched an indefinite protest, alleging that the government and administration failed to fulfil assurances made to specially-abled persons during an earlier agitation.
Protesting in srinagar, one of the protester said as per news agency JKNS that, the protest commenced today, with participation from specially-abled persons from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Association President Abdul Rashid Bhat said the protest would not be limited to a few days and would continue until the long-pending demands of specially-abled persons are addressed through concrete action.
He said the Association had earlier staged a 19-day sit-in at Dogra Chowk, Jammu, during which several senior officials, including officers from the Social Welfare Department, district administration and police, assured the protesters that their issues would be resolved.
Bhat alleged that despite repeated assurances, including promises of facilitating meetings with the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister and Social Welfare Minister, no meaningful progress was made.
He further claimed that the Association repeatedly sought appointments through emails and official communications but did not receive permission to meet the concerned authorities.
“The assurances given during the previous protest were not implemented. We have once again been forced to come onto the streets after being continuously ignored,” Bhat said.
The Association said the ongoing protest is expected to be larger than the previous demonstration, with specially-abled persons from various districts joining the agitation.
Bhat maintained that the protest would continue until practical measures are taken to resolve the genuine issues and demands of persons with disabilities, adding that the Association would no longer end its agitation on the basis of verbal assurances alone. (JKNS)
