New Delhi, Aug 6 (JKNS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the Territorial Army remains an integral pillar of India’s defence architecture and has consistently played a vital role in supporting military operations, assisting civil authorities, safeguarding critical infrastructure and responding effectively to natural disasters and other emergencies.

According to the news agency JKNS, Rajnath Singh made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence, where members discussed the modernisation, operational preparedness and future roadmap of the Territorial Army.

He emphasised that the Government is committed to strengthening the Territorial Army through sustained modernisation, institutional reforms and enhanced capabilities to effectively address emerging security challenges.

During the meeting, lawmakers deliberated on improving the force’s operational readiness, organisational capabilities, training standards and technological advancement.

The committee also reviewed measures aimed at strengthening coordination between the Territorial Army and the regular Armed Forces during national emergencies, border management, internal security operations and disaster response.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and the Territorial Army briefed the panel on the force’s present responsibilities, organisational structure and ongoing reforms designed to improve efficiency, mobility and operational effectiveness.

Members of the committee also stressed the need to upgrade training infrastructure, improve welfare measures for personnel and expand the Territorial Army’s role in maintaining essential services during crises and supporting national development initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Government’s commitment to further strengthening India’s defence preparedness by enhancing the operational capabilities of the Territorial Army, recognising its crucial contribution to national security. (JKNS)
