J&K Weather: Heavy Rain Likely in Parts of Jammu, Kashmir From Aug 16-19: MET

Srinagar, Aug 14 (JKNS): Director Meteorological Centre Srinagar Dr Mukhtar Ahmad on Friday forecast spells of rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense showers at a few districts between August 16 and 19.

As per news agency JKNS, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said significant rainfall during the past 24 hours was recorded at Kathua (62.4 mm), Bhaderwah (62.2 mm) and Reasi ARG (34.5 mm).

For August 14, the Met Department has forecast a spell of rain and thundershowers at many places, with brief intense showers possible from afternoon till evening.

On August 15, a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is expected at many places in J&K during late night and early morning hours, followed by another brief spell during afternoon hours.

From August 16 to 19, a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with heavy rain or brief intense heavy showers likely at a few districts during early morning and afternoon hours.

For August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are likely at scattered places.

The Met Department has specifically warned of the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers in a few districts of the Jammu division, along with brief intense showers at one or two districts of the Kashmir division during August 16–19.

It further cautioned that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

People, particularly those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas, have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall. (JKNS)
