Training Programme on POSH Act, 2013 and SHE-BOX Portal Held at GDC Budgam

Budgam, Aug 18 (JKNS): The District Social Welfare Office, Budgam, in collaboration with SANKALP – Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Mission Shakti, organised a training programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act), and the SHE-BOX Portal at Government Degree College (GDC), Budgam, on Tuesday.

The programme commenced at 11:00 AM with a welcome address by the Principal, SAM Degree College, Budgam, followed by an introduction to the programme and its objectives by DMC Afroza Ahad, SANKALP–HEW, Mission Shakti, Budgam. Dr. Masoofa Majeed moderated the programme and coordinated the proceedings.

The main training session on the POSH Act was conducted by Advocate Mehreen Zaffar, DLSA, who sensitised participants about the legal provisions concerning the prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment at the workplace. The session also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the Internal Committee (IC/ICC), along with procedures for reporting and addressing complaints of workplace sexual harassment.

A dedicated session on the SHE-BOX Portal was conducted by Ms. Nelofar Nazir, Superintendent, Shakti Sadan. She explained the purpose and functioning of the portal, including registration, filing of complaints and the monitoring mechanism available through SHE-BOX.

The programme also featured an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session, allowing participants to seek clarifications on practical issues related to the implementation of the POSH Act and ensuring workplace safety.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ruhina Jaan, Convenor, ICC, SAM Degree College, Budgam.

The training emphasised the importance of creating safe, respectful and empowering workplaces for women while strengthening awareness about legal safeguards and available mechanisms for reporting and addressing workplace sexual harassment.

The programme was organised in line with the objectives of SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti, which focuses on awareness generation, capacity building and dissemination of information regarding schemes, policies and legislation related to women’s safety, security and empowerment.
