Srinagar, Aug 21 (JKNS): A delegation of the cricket fraternity from Dalgate, led by Firdous Bazaz and Javed Ahmad along with other members of the team, on Sunday called on Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, and apprised her of the challenges being faced by local cricketers while appreciating the Council’s efforts towards promoting sports and supporting budding talent in Jammu & Kashmir.

The delegation discussed various issues concerning the local cricketing fraternity and highlighted the need for continued institutional support, better opportunities and platforms for young players to showcase their talent at higher levels.

The members appreciated Nuzhat Gul and the J&K Sports Council for their initiatives aimed at providing opportunities to budding sportspersons from Jammu & Kashmir, including platforms that have enabled talented players to participate in national and international sporting events.

They said such initiatives have helped young athletes move from limited local opportunities to bigger competitive platforms, giving them the confidence and exposure required to pursue sports as a career.

The delegation also highlighted the wider role of sports in engaging the youth of Jammu & Kashmir in constructive activities, describing the transition from “drugs to stadiums” as an important step towards building a healthier and more empowered generation.

The members said that with increasing sporting activities and the emergence of new tournaments, more youngsters are expected to participate and benefit from competitive opportunities across different disciplines.

The delegation further appreciated the Sports Council for strengthening sporting infrastructure and creating opportunities for young players, saying that sustained support from the administration can help J&K produce more athletes capable of representing the region at national and international levels.

During the interaction, the delegation also discussed upcoming cricket tournaments and other sporting events, which are expected to provide local players with additional opportunities to compete, develop their skills and gain valuable exposure.

The cricket fraternity assured the Secretary of its continued cooperation in promoting sports and encouraging young talent, while the interaction also focused on further strengthening the connection between local sporting communities and the Sports Council. (JKNS)
