Budgam, Aug 22 (JKNS): Cardiff School, Charari Sharief, in collaboration with Markazi Adab and Sakafat, organised a literary function to mark the release of “My Treasure: The Light and Shadows of My Life”, authored by prominent writer and scholar G.N. Adfar Ghulam Nabi.
The event brought together writers, scholars, educationists, intellectuals and personalities associated with literature, culture and social service. Mirwaiz Ameer-ud-Din, SSP and senior KPS officer Tahir Saleem, author G.N. Adfar Ghulam Nabi, and Dr Owais Matoo, Director, Cardiff School and District President of the Private Schools Association, Budgam, were among those present.
Renowned short-story writer Muhammad Amin Butt, Professor Bashir Bashir, former Director of Markazi Noor University Kashmir, Dr Ghulam Nabi Halim, senior Waqf Board member and scholar of Sheikh-ul-Aalamiyat, Tahir Hamid, Principal, Government Higher Secondary School Nagam, and Ali Mohammad Shaida, Chairman, Holy Home School, also attended the programme.
Speakers appreciated the author’s long literary journey and contribution to writing and scholarship. They described “My Treasure: The Light and Shadows of My Life” as a work reflecting the author’s personal experiences, memories, observations, emotions and reflections on society and culture.
They said writings based on personal experiences and social realities hold significance beyond an individual author’s life, as they preserve the experiences of a particular period and provide future generations with an insight into the changing social and cultural landscape.
The speakers also discussed the wider role of literature in preserving Kashmir’s language, history, traditions, values and collective memory. They said Kashmir has a rich literary and scholarly tradition and that preserving this heritage requires sustained efforts to encourage reading, writing and meaningful literary expression.
Particular emphasis was laid on developing reading habits among students and young people. The speakers said books remain an important means of broadening one’s outlook, developing intellectual maturity, encouraging critical thinking and gaining a deeper understanding of society.
They stressed the need to encourage young writers to document their experiences, thoughts and observations so that contemporary social realities are preserved for future generations.
The participants described the newly released book as a valuable addition to contemporary literature and expressed hope that it would attract readers and encourage young people to engage more closely with books and literary activities.
The programme also highlighted the importance of organising literary and cultural events at the local level to provide writers, students, scholars and readers with opportunities to interact and exchange ideas.
The participants appreciated the efforts of Cardiff School, Markazi Adab and Sakafat in promoting literary, cultural and educational activities and expressed hope that such programmes would continue to provide a platform for literary discussion and promote reading and writing in the region. (JKNS)
