Kupwara, August 27 (JKNS): The much-awaited Lolab Premier League (LPL) Cricket Tournament got off to an impressive start at the Chandigam Cricket Ground on Wednesday, with Etihad Cricket Club, Magam, beginning its campaign on a winning note by defeating Sogam 11 by a commanding margin of 115 runs.
The tournament has brought together cricketing talent from across Lolab Valley, providing a vibrant platform for young and aspiring cricketers to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level.
The opening fixture witnessed an enthusiastic response from cricket lovers, with players displaying competitive spirit and determination on the field. Etihad Cricket Club produced a strong all-round performance to outclass Sogam 11 and secure a comprehensive victory in the tournament’s opening match.
The Lolab Premier League features 32 teams representing different parts of Lolab Valley. The participation of a large number of teams reflects the growing popularity of cricket in the region and the increasing enthusiasm among local youth for organised sporting activities.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Commanding Officer of the Lolab Rashtriya Rifles unit, who extended his best wishes to all participating teams and encouraged the young cricketers to utilise the opportunity to develop their sporting abilities.
Addressing the participants, the Commanding Officer emphasised the importance of sports in providing young people with opportunities to develop discipline, teamwork, confidence and leadership qualities. He encouraged the players to make the most of the competitive platform and pursue excellence both on and off the field.
The launch of the LPL is being seen as a significant initiative for promoting grassroots cricket in Lolab Valley. With 32 teams participating, the tournament is expected to generate considerable excitement among local sports enthusiasts and provide emerging players with valuable exposure.
