Kishtwar, Aug 28 (JKNS): District Police Kishtwar has arrested a nurse posted at District Hospital Kishtwar as the sixth accused in the investigation into the suspicious death of a minor girl from Chatroo, with the probe allegedly uncovering evidence related to sexual exploitation, pregnancy and attempts to terminate the pregnancy.
As per news agency JKNS, District Police Kishtwar has arrested Sonika, Nurse at District Hospital Kishtwar, as the sixth accused in the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of a minor girl, aged about 15–16 years, from the Chatroo area.
The arrest has been made in connection with FIR No. 34/2026 of Police Station Chatroo, registered under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the matter, SSP Kishtwar, constituted a SIT. During investigation, material surfaced regarding the alleged sexual exploitation of the minor, her pregnancy, attempts to terminate the pregnancy and the involvement of multiple persons, including those connected with her medical treatment. Five accused had already been arrested, and the role of Sonika subsequently surfaced during the investigation, leading to her arrest as the sixth accused.
The SIT is continuing a thorough, scientific, impartial and evidence-based investigation into the circumstances leading to the minor’s death and the role of every person found connected with the case.
Further arrests, wherever warranted by evidence, are being pursued, and strict legal action will be taken against all persons found involved in accordance with law. District Police Kishtwar reaffirms its commitment to an expeditious and thorough investigation and shall ensure no one guilty is spared. (JKNS)
