Kargil, Sept 2 (JKNS): Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in association with the Department of Posts, today inaugurated the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) at the Sub Post Office, Kargil, under the jurisdiction of Regional Passport Office (RPO), Srinagar.

The newly inaugurated POPSK is the fourth such Seva Kendra under RPO Srinagar and the 457th POPSK in the country.
The inauguration marks an important milestone in the expansion of passport services, with the Ministry of External Affairs having established at least one Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in each Lok Sabha constituency under the jurisdiction of RPO Srinagar.

The facility was inaugurated by Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in the presence of Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh; Shri Mohmad Haneefa, Member of Parliament, Ladakh; Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil; and other distinguished dignitaries and senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Posts and the Union Territory Administration.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the new POPSK at Kargil is an important part of the ongoing expansion of the Passport Seva Programme. He noted that the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, with the objective of making passport services more accessible, citizen-centric and efficient across the country.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery by expanding passport infrastructure to underserved and remote regions and ensuring that citizens can avail essential services closer to their place of residence.

The establishment of POPSK Kargil is aimed at improving the accessibility, efficiency and convenience of passport-related services for residents of the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency and adjoining areas. The facility will reduce the need for applicants from Kargil to travel long distances to avail passport services, thereby saving time and cost.

Applicants can book appointments online through the official Passport Seva website. (JKNS)
