Shopian, Sept 5 (JKNS): Shopian Police have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious financial transaction involving a stone allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola” or meteorite, recovering ₹5 lakh in cash and registering an FIR in the case, officials said.
Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS said that, Police have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a so-called “Trath Gola”, which was allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable meteorite stone.
The apprehended individuals were brought to Police Station Heerpora for questioning and further legal proceedings. They have been identified as, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat S/o Habibullah Bhat R/o Bagi Islam Baramulla. Safeeruddin Mir S/o Haneef Mir R/o Rajghat Baramulla. Abdul Rashid Kirmani S/o Ghulam Nabi Kirmani R/o Rawalpora Srinagar. Mohammad Shafi Mir S/o Abdul Ahad Mir, R/o Zaloora Sopore. Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo S/o Ghulam Mohammad Bakloo R/o Pushroo Shangus Anantnag. Arshid Ahmad Wani S/o Mohammad Subhan Wani R/o Khurri Batpora, Kulgam and Syed Gulzar Ahmad S/o Syed Qamar Din R/o Lakdipora Nihama.
During the preliminary enquiry, Police recovered ₹5,00,000/- in cash from the spot along with a box containing a stone, which was allegedly being represented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola”/meteorite.
Moreover, two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 (Alto) and JK03B-5955 (Alto) were also brought to Police Station Heerpora for further examination.
In connection with the incident, FIR No.95/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Heerpora and further investigation is underway to establish the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction.
Shopian Police have cautioned the general public against falling prey to fraudulent claims involving so-called rare, precious or meteorite stones. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity and value of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transaction.
