Bandipora: Bandipora Police have solved a sheep theft case and recovered all 21 stolen sheep.
The case was registered under FIR No. 201/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS at Police Station Sumbal, Police Post Ajas, following a complaint lodged by Mohammad Ashraf Chichi, son of Sulaiman Chichi, a resident of Kalakote, Rajouri, presently residing at Chewa, Bandipora.
According to the complaint, 21 sheep were stolen from his residence during the intervening night of September 7 and 8. Following registration of the FIR, police launched an investigation, with a team from Ajas Police Post, led by DO Aeraf Niyaz, taking up the case under the close supervision of SSP Bandipora
During the course of the investigation, police developed a crucial lead regarding a vehicle bearing a Srinagar registration number. Acting on the lead, police questioned an individual from Mujgund, Srinagar, who reportedly disclosed that the stolen sheep had been taken to Bonigam, Qazigund, after some individuals had allegedly transported them on foot to Mujgund.
Acting swiftly on the information, a police team from Ajas Police Post proceeded to Qazigund, where Mukhtar Ahmad Khatana, a resident of Rajouri and presently a temporary resident of Safapora, was apprehended for questioning.
During further investigation, police recovered all 21 stolen sheep from his possession. The recovered livestock was subsequently handed over to their rightful owner.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of SSP Bandipora and SDPO Sumbal, who led and coordinated the police team during the operation.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Ashraf Chichi and local residents expressed their gratitude to Bandipora Police, particularly the Ajas Police Post team ,DO Ajas Aeraf Niyaz, for their prompt action and efforts in tracing and recovering the stolen sheep.
