Srinagar, Sept 12 (JKNS): J&K Waqf Board Chairperson and Minister of State Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Saturday inaugurated the T-20 Cricket Super League at Alamdar Sports Stadium, Chrar-e-Sharif, calling for greater promotion of grassroots sports to nurture young talent and keep youth away from drugs.
Andrabi, as per news agency JKNS, unveiled the trophy and formally inaugurated the T-20 Cricket Tournament at Alamdar Sports Stadium, Chrar-e-Sharif today.
The tournament is being organised by Chrar-e-Sharif Sultans with the objective of promoting sports, fitness and healthy recreational activities among the youth for a drugs free society and providing talented young cricketers an opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive and positive sporting environment.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi said that the transformation of the sports sector in Jammu & Kashmir was a matter of great pride and appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a major impetus to sports through the Khelo India programme.
“The Khelo India programme under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a tremendous boost to sports infrastructure and created a healthy and vibrant atmosphere for sporting activities in Jammu & Kashmir. Our sportspersons are now excelling in different sporting disciplines at national and international levels, bringing laurels to J&K and the country. This is a very positive revolution in our sports sector.”
Dr. Andrabi further said that the impact of this transformation was particularly visible in cricket, where young talent from Jammu & Kashmir was increasingly making its presence felt on the national stage.
“The positive revolution in sports, especially in cricket, has led to the emergence of many young and talented star cricketers from J&K who are shining at the national level, including in the Indian Premier League.
This is a testimony to the talent and potential of our youth when they are provided the right opportunities, infrastructure and encouragement.”
Dr. Andrabi said that sporting events at the grassroots level were essential for identifying and nurturing young talent & keeping our youth away from evils like drug menace.
She expressed hope that the T-20 tournament at Chrar-e-Sharif would inspire more youngsters to take up cricket and other sports seriously and pursue their sporting aspirations.
Mohamad Rafeeq Abdullah, Chief Organiser of the League, Academic Dr. Aijaz Ashraf, Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr. Rameez Raja, Co-Convener of BJP Khalid Rathore & Umer Jan were present during the inaugural event.
Waqf Chairperson also paid obeisance at the Ziyarat-e-Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA) at Chrar-e-Sharif and took stock of the ongoing construction works.
Waqf Board Administrator Mohammad Amin Dar, engineering team including Executive Engineer Er. Qazi Mushtaq, In-Charge Officer Er. Rehmat Ullah Bhat, Assistant Engineer Er. Ghulam-e-Murtaza & Er. Javed Wani accompanied Dr Andrabi during the visit. She gave instructions to complete the works in given time frame. (JKNS)
