- Srinagar, Sept 24 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution urging the Union Government to amend the Right to Education (RTE) Act to exempt teachers appointed before October 31, 2019, from appearing in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
Education Minister Sakina Itoo moved the resolution in the House, as per news agency JKNS, seeking a necessary statutory amendment to Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
The resolution states that the House unanimously urges the Union Government to exempt all teachers appointed before October 31, 2019, from appearing in the TET.
“The House further urges the Union Government to take all necessary legal steps and issue the requisite Notification through the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for exemption of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET),” the resolution reads.
The move seeks statutory and procedural measures from the Centre to provide the proposed exemption to the concerned teachers.(JKNS)
