Srinagar, Sept 27 (JKNS): A group of youth voluntarily organised Kashmir Youth Leadership Conclave in Srinagar aimed at giving space to students to voice their issues and opinions.
The conclave was attended by Congress chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera, PDP legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, National Conference legislator Javaid Baig, Congress legislator Irfan Hafeez Lone. Khera, who had flown from Delhi to attend the Conclave, was the chief guest.
The Conclave was organised by Mohsin Andrabi and Saleem Malik from Pulwama and were supported by other young volunteers.
Pawan Khera spoke about the political issues that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and across the country are facing. He cited lack of democratic space and crippling of institutions during the current regime at the Centre.
PDP’s Para spoke about choking of voices in Kashmir and youth grappling with issues which are not being addressed.
Javaid Baig of NC spoke about the role of youth and taking up their issues through institutional struggle and measures.
Congress Irfan Hafeez Lone spoke about saving the constitution and taking up all issues constitutionally.
A question and answer session was held during the conclave in which the student participants asked questions about different issues.
The students from different academic backgrounds including law, economics, management, science saw a voice to their grievances and issues they are facing.
Many spoke about reservation, unemployment, lack of job opportunities in the private sector, and lack of development in their own areas. Others spoke about the political issue, disempowerment of institutions, role or lack of it from the Congress, ruling party National Conference, and opposition. (JKNS)
