The Shah Payaan UT-Level Taekwondo Championship 2026 was inaugurated today with great enthusiasm and participation in Shopian.
DySP Mr. Imtiyaz Mir graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and encouraged the participating athletes with his inspiring presence.
The championship has brought together 350+ players from 17 districts across Jammu & Kashmir, providing a significant platform for young taekwondo athletes to compete, gain valuable experience and showcase their talent.
The event is being organised by the Taekwondo Association of District Shopian (TADS), affiliated with the J&K Taekwondo Association (JKTA) and recognised by the J&K Sports Council (JKSC).
Danish Manzoor, International Taekwondo Athlete and Fit India Ambassador, was appointed as the Observer for the championship by the J&K Taekwondo Association. His presence added further significance to the event and reflected the association’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and professional conduct of the championship.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ahtisham Zahoor, President, Taekwondo Association of District Shopian, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, along with distinguished dignitaries, officials, coaches, athletes and sports enthusiasts.
President, J&K Taekwondo Association, Shri Rajesh Pangotra, and Secretary, Shri Ramesh Chander Sharma, lauded the efforts of the organising committee in conducting the prestigious championship and extended their best wishes and support to all the participating athletes for a successful and memorable event.
The championship reflects the true spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, unity and peace, while promoting Taekwondo and encouraging young athletes across Jammu & Kashmir to pursue excellence in sports.
