Srinagar, Sept 30 (JKNS): Eight residential-cum-cowshed structures were damaged and around 40 sheep and 10 cattle perished in a major fire incident at Mungli in Warwan area of Kishtwar district during the intervening night of September 29–30, officials said.
An official from Fire and Emergency Services told news agency JKNS that the Fire Control Room Anantnag received a fire call at around 00:20 hours, following which fire tenders and Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) were mobilised from various stations towards the incident site.
The response was initially led by Fire Headquarters Anantnag, with reinforcements deployed from F&ES Larnoo, F&ES Kokernag and F&ES Kawarigam. A QRV from F&ES Headquarters Anantnag, carrying two fire engines, was also sent to the site.
The official said the responding stations covered considerable distances, with F&ES Headquarters Anantnag covering around 125 km, Larnoo 70 km, Kokernag 90 km and Kawarigam 110 km.
Despite difficult terrain, long distances and night-time conditions, the fire tenders reached the site at around 04:50 hours, following which firefighting operations were launched.
After an intensive operation, the fire was brought under control and cooling operations were carried out to prevent further spread or re-ignition.
No human casualties have been reported in the incident.
The official said the cause of the fire remains unknown and is being investigated by the concerned authorities. (JKNS)
