Awantipora police arrests 02 drug peddlers; Contraband substance recovered

December 24: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession, besides, cash amount of ₹96,000 also seized.

Officers at a check point established at Reshipora near Panzgam Dogripora Crossing intercepted a vehicle GETZ bearing registration number DL3CAL-3718 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Maqsood Ahmad Lone resident of Check Rajpora and Mohammad Ayoub Khan resident of Khankah Awantipora. During checking, officers were able to recover 15 Kgs of contraband substance (Grinded Cannabis) from their possession. Besides, officers also seized cash amount of ₹96,000 from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Awantipora where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

During investigation, officers learnt that the seized money from the arrested drug peddlers pertains to the proceeds of the narcotic substances.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 196/2020  under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
