Budgam, October 12: The Agriculture Department Beerwah organised a felicitation programme to recognise and appreciate the contribution of Manjeet Singh Gill, an educationist and teacher at PM SHRI Boys Higher Secondary School, Humhama, Budgam, for his dedication to agriculture alongside his teaching profession.
During the programme, Fayaz Ahmad War, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Beerwah, presented Gill with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his enthusiasm, commitment and active involvement in farming.
Described as a teacher by profession and a farmer by passion and choice, Gill has emerged as an inspiring example of how individuals from different professional backgrounds can contribute to agriculture while fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
His dedication to farming has recently attracted public attention on social media, where a video highlighting agricultural activities in the Beerwah area has generated interest and discussions about the importance of agriculture, the preservation of traditional farming practices and the protection of fertile agricultural land.
Through his involvement in farming, Gill has been encouraging people, particularly the younger generation, to understand the value of agriculture and recognise the vital role farmers play in sustaining society.
Emphasising the importance of protecting agricultural resources, Gill has appealed to the public to safeguard fertile land and respect the hard work, dedication and patience of farming families.
He stressed that agricultural land is not merely a piece of property but a valuable natural resource that supports livelihoods, strengthens the rural economy and contributes to food security. Protecting this land, he maintained, is essential for ensuring a sustainable future for coming generations.
With the arrival of the Harud, or harvest season, Gill highlighted the importance of recognising farmers’ efforts and appreciating the fruits of their labour. The season reflects the dedication of farming families who work throughout the year to cultivate crops and contribute to the region’s agricultural economy.
He emphasised that agriculture should not be viewed merely as a traditional occupation but as an essential sector that sustains communities, generates employment opportunities, strengthens the rural economy and contributes to overall societal development.
Gill’s recognition by the Agriculture Department Beerwah also highlights the importance of encouraging educated youth and professionals from different fields to explore farming as a dignified, productive and potentially rewarding pursuit.
With the adoption of modern agricultural techniques, scientific methods, innovation and improved farming practices, agriculture can create meaningful opportunities for young people while helping preserve the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
The felicitation programme serves as a positive example of recognising individuals who contribute to agricultural development beyond their primary professions. It also reinforces the need to raise public awareness about farming and the conservation of natural resources.
Gill’s commitment to both education and farming demonstrates how knowledge, professional experience and personal passion can come together to promote rural development. His efforts may inspire more young people to take an interest in agriculture and recognise its importance in economic growth and community well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjeet Singh Gill emphasised the need to protect fertile agricultural land, respect farmers and encourage the younger generation to take an active interest in farming.
He highlighted that agriculture is fundamental to society and that protecting agricultural resources is a collective responsibility requiring public awareness, commitment and cooperation from all sections of society.
The initiative underscores the importance of promoting a positive outlook towards agriculture and recognising individuals who make meaningful contributions to the sector through their dedication and personal efforts.
As the region moves through the harvest season, Gill’s example serves as a reminder that protecting agricultural land, supporting farmers and preserving traditional farming practices are collective responsibilities essential for building a sustainable future for generations to come.
