Srinagar, Oct 21 (JKNS): BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur on Wednesday said the joint celebration of Dussehra by Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims and Sikhs in Srinagar reflected Kashmir’s composite culture and enduring spirit of communal harmony, asserting that the burning of Ravana symbolised the triumph of good over evil and the defeat of fear, terrorism and hatred.
Thakur as per news agency JKNS said, the Dussehra celebrations in Srinagar reflected the true spirit of Kashmir’s composite culture, communal harmony and brotherhood, with Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims and Sikhs coming together to celebrate the festival.
He said the sight of people from different communities celebrating together was a powerful message that Kashmir’s age-old tradition of Kashmiriyat remains alive and continues to strengthen the bonds of unity among its people.
“Yesterday, we witnessed the real spirit of Kashmiriyat, where Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims and Sikhs stood together to celebrate Dussehra. This is the Kashmir we cherish—a land where love triumphs over hatred, brotherhood defeats division and humanity rises above all differences,” Thakur said.
He said the burning of Ravana symbolised not only the victory of good over evil but also the defeat of fear, terrorism and forces that sought to disturb peace and communal harmony in Kashmir.
“The Ravana of fear and terrorism is being consigned to the flames of change. There was a time when fear cast a shadow over public life, but today people are coming out with confidence, celebrating festivals together and reclaiming their shared cultural spaces. This transformation deserves recognition,” he said.
Thakur credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their leadership, saying their commitment to peace, security and development had helped create an atmosphere in which people could participate in public celebrations with greater confidence.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the message is clear: terrorism cannot defeat the spirit of our people, and hatred cannot destroy Kashmir’s tradition of brotherhood. The coming together of communities in Srinagar is a powerful symbol of hope and a reminder that peace and unity will always prevail,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson said Kashmir’s strength lay in its diversity and shared heritage, adding that such celebrations should become a regular feature of public life across the Valley.
“Our festivals may be different, but our happiness, our humanity and our future are shared. The sight of Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims and Sikhs celebrating together is the real victory of Dussehra. Let this spirit grow stronger, and let Kashmir move forward on the path of lasting peace, prosperity and communal harmony,” Thakur added. (JKNS)
