December 27: Police in Ganderbal have arrested five bootleggers and recovered 20 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established near CRPF 118BN Head Quarters NHW Gund, Ganderbal intercepted five persons identified as Mohammad Safdar Sheikh resident of Nowshera, Ashok Kumar Patra resident of Odisha, Ranjeet Kumar resident of Udhampur, Waseem Ahmad resident of Ramsu Ramban and Rahul Gupta resident of MP Bumra. During search, officers were able to recover 20 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Gund where they remain in custody.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 78/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Gund and further investigation is in process.
Locals have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police has resolved to act tough against inimical elements.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti social elements in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in anti social activities will be dealt as per law.
