Srinagar, Oct 23 (JKNS): Jammu Kashmir Police have warned people against the ‘ClickFix’ cyber scam, in which fake CAPTCHA tests, browser error messages or security verification prompts can trick users into executing malicious commands on their own devices.
In an advisory as per news agency JKNS, the police cautioned that prompts appearing to be routine security checks could compromise a computer or other system by persuading users to run harmful commands.
Those who have already executed such commands have been advised to disconnect their devices from the internet immediately and switch off Wi-Fi to limit further unauthorised activity.
The police also advised affected users to change the passwords of their email, banking, social media and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) accounts using a separate, secure device.
A full antivirus scan should be carried out on the affected system, which should also be examined by an IT expert or cybersecurity professional, the advisory said.
People who fall victim to cyber fraud have been urged to call the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or report the incident through the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in. (JKNS
