Srinagar, Oct 29 (JKNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called upon the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to stay away from drugs and actively participate in sports and nation-building, saying their energy, confidence and positive thinking were essential for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous J&K.

Addressing the closing ceremony of ‘Pedal Through Paradise 2026’ at Police Golf Course on the banks of Dal Lake, as per news agency JKNS, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the role of sports in promoting discipline, physical fitness and a positive outlook among young people.

Congratulating the participants and winners of the cycling event, Sinha said such initiatives provide a platform for young people to showcase their talent and channel their energy into constructive activities.

He said J&K Police was contributing beyond its core responsibilities by undertaking initiatives aimed at strengthening public trust, promoting social harmony and engaging youth in positive activities.

Referring to initiatives such as ‘Jashn-e-Dal’ and ‘Pedal Through Paradise’, the Lieutenant Governor said these events conveyed a message of hope, discipline and confidence while encouraging young people to connect with their surroundings and participate actively in society.

Sinha said youth were not merely the future but also the strength of the present, adding that their achievements in sports, innovation and entrepreneurship reflected their potential to contribute to the region’s development.

Stressing the need for collective efforts to combat drug abuse, he called for the active involvement of families, communities and young people in addressing the challenge.

He also emphasised that people struggling with addiction should be treated with support and understanding rather than social stigma, saying society had an important role in helping them recover and rebuild their lives.

The Lieutenant Governor called for sustained efforts to ensure that young people remained healthy, safe and focused on their goals, adding that their active participation was vital for a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
