Kandi Khass, Kupwara, October 30 (JKNS): In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare access in remote and underserved areas, the Keegam Battalion of the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Hum Charitable Trust, organized a comprehensive free medical camp at Kandi Khass, bringing essential medical facilities closer to the doorsteps of local residents.
The initiative was organized with the objective of addressing the healthcare needs of people living in far-flung areas, where access to specialized medical facilities and timely healthcare services often remains a challenge. Special attention was given to elderly people, women and children, who frequently face difficulties in accessing healthcare infrastructure located at distant places.
During the camp, a dedicated team comprising military and civilian medical officers, along with supporting medical staff, attended to patients and provided individual medical consultations. Residents underwent basic health check-ups and received necessary medical advice, while essential prescription medicines were distributed free of cost to those in need.
Apart from providing immediate medical assistance, the medical team also conducted awareness sessions focusing on preventive healthcare, seasonal illnesses, personal hygiene and the importance of adopting healthy daily routines. Residents were sensitized about precautionary measures to protect themselves from common seasonal diseases and encouraged to seek timely medical attention whenever required.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Indian Army and civil society organizations in addressing pressing social concerns, particularly in geographically challenging areas where healthcare facilities are not always easily accessible.
A representative of the Keegam Battalion stated that such community-oriented initiatives reflect the Indian Army’s continued commitment towards the welfare, well-being and upliftment of local communities. The representative emphasized that the Army remains dedicated not only to safeguarding the nation but also to extending humanitarian assistance and contributing to the overall development of people living in remote regions.
Members of the Hum Charitable Trust appreciated the Indian Army for its cooperation and support in making the medical outreach programme possible. They reiterated their commitment to working for the welfare of society and undertaking more initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access and extending humanitarian assistance to deserving sections of the population.
Meanwhile, local residents and community representatives expressed their gratitude to the Keegam Battalion and Hum Charitable Trust for organizing the camp. They said that bringing medical consultations and free medicines directly to their locality was a meaningful step, particularly for those who find it difficult to travel long distances for routine medical check-ups.
The residents also emphasized the need for more such initiatives in remote and underserved areas, stating that regular medical outreach programmes can play an important role in improving public health, spreading awareness and ensuring that vulnerable sections of society are not deprived of basic healthcare services.
The medical camp concluded with a message of cooperation, compassion and community service, reaffirming the importance of collective efforts in building a healthier and more empowered society.
