Srinagar, Nov 4 (JKNS): Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday announced that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a two-year ‘Second Tour of Duty’ for Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme.
DM Singh as per news agency JKNS, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision, saying it would also provide an opportunity for all willing Agniveers to be enrolled as regular soldiers after completing their four/six-year tenure, subject to fulfilment of the prescribed selection criteria.
He said the decision was part of the long-term structural reforms aimed at creating a younger, fitter, technologically equipped and future-ready military.
Describing the move as more than a recruitment policy, Singh said it was a step towards preparing India’s armed forces for the changing character of warfare. (JKNS)
