Locals aghast, stage dharna, Dy. Comnr takes note, Tehsildar calls meeting on Monday

The drinking water woes amid COVID Lockdown seem to be far from over in Krerri area with authorities unable to take the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Kreeri PHE Sub Division to task for his failure to provide drinking water to the area amid holly month of Ramadan and lockdown. The irony is that nobody in the administration lends ear to public grievances and instead are hell bent to not only shield the erring AEE who often allegedly remains absent from the duties besides punishing every employee who dares to speak about his alleged ‘absence’.Scores of villagers in Thindam Saturday staged a dharna on the road demanding drinking water, alleging that the PHE Sub division Kreeri has been playing hide and seek forcing them to travel nearly two kilometers everyday to fetch water from a spring in a nearby village Alalhpora. Pertinently the concerned AEE was accused by his own employees last month of having remained absent from duties for more than a month. Both the employees were later transferred to Rafiabad by Executive Engineer PHE Division Baramullah for speaking against the officer.Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Bramulla Dr. G.N. Itoo told RNA that he would call Executive Engineer and see why the people were facing the problems frequently.Tehsildar Kreeri Syed Shabbr Sarwar told that he has called the Assistant Executive Engineer and all PHE workers of the subdivision to his office on Monday and will also personally go for physical verification of the system. Mr. Sarwar however, told that two OHTs at Kreeri were full and added there shouldn’t be any problem with the drinking water. It was only after the intervention of the administration that the localities in Kreeri and Thindam were able to get the water supply late in the afternoon.Meanwhile the locals told that the late afternoon supply of water to these areas after the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and Tehsildar Kreeri have proved that their grievances against the AEE were correct and added that this clearly shows that there was nothing wrong with the pipeline instead the supply was being withheld deliberately with some ulterior motives.
They have appealed Deputy Commissioner to order an enquiry before they would hit the streets.
