Police arrests 06 drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora; Contraband substances recovered

March 16: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Kulgam & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Kulgam, officers established two checking points near Khudwani and Railway Bridge Wanpoh in the jurisdiction of Police Station Qaimoh. At these checking points, officers’ intercepted four persons identified as Irfan Rashid Dar, Aabid Hussain Reshi both residents of Hanjipora Mirbazar, Ansar Ahmad Mir and Bilal Ahmad Ganie both residents of Pethbugh Dialgam Anantnag. During checking, officers were able to recover 12Kgs of Poppy Straw and 05gms of Heroin from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 11/2021 & 12/2021 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Qaimoh and further investigation has been initiated.

In Awantipora, officers at a check point established at Reshipora Bund intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK18-0221. They have been identified as Parvez Ahmad Sheikh and Amir Maqbool both residents of Reshipora Awantipora. During checking, officers were able to recover 04Kgs of grinded Cannabis from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace
