GANDERBAL, MAY 12: Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal today directed the officers to start identification of all such people of the district who intentionally grow poppy and cannabis so that intensive campaign against its cultivation is initiated in the district.
The DC gave these directions while chairing a meeting to discuss the arrangements for launching a drive against the cannabis and poppy cultivators of the district. He asked the revenue officials to activate field functionaries besides taking help of police personnel for identification of all such illicit crop cultivators and initiate strict action against such persons as per law.
Mr Iqbal asked the officers to destroy all such illicit crops so that drug menace is weeded out from the society. While stressing for intensifying anti-poopy and bhang cultivation drive, he underlined need for inter-departmental coordination for carrying effective drive against the cultivators of illicit crops.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, and officials from Excise and Taxation Departments were present on the occasion.
