14 traders booked for violating laws

Srinagar, Apr 15: Legal Metrology Department booked at least 14 shopkeepers for violating Legal Metrology Laws for which a penal sum of Rs 10,300 was collected on spot.

Those who were booked and fined included vegetable and fruit sellers and Poultry shops.

A Spokesperson said that the nature of offences was mainly use of unstamped commercial weights and measures.

The use of un-reverified weights and measures is illegal under Legal Metrology Act. The consumers may contact the department on toll-free No: 1800-180-7114 during office hours in case any trader is using non-standard weight or measure or indulges in short-weighment or measurement.
