Police launches destruction drive of poppy cultivation in Bandipora and Ganderbal; Two arrested

May 15: Continuing its efforts to root out the menace of drugs, Police launched extensive drive to destroy illegal poppy cultivation in Bandipora & Ganderbal districts and arrested two persons.

In Bandipora, Police parties of P/S Hajin under the supervision of SDPO Hajin and SHO Hajin along with Excise department destroyed poppy cultivation in Paribal, Malikpora , Madhwan Hajin and other adjoining areas.

Similarly in Ganderbal, Police team led by Addl. SP Ganderbal and SHO Kheerbhawani along with Revenue authorities destroyed illegal cultivation of poppy at Shallabugh area in the jurisdiction of P/S Kheerbhawani.

Two persons identified as Abdul Aziz Shiekh and Ghulam Hassan Khanday both residents of Shallabugh have been arrested in this regard and were shifted to P/S Kheerbhawani where they remain in custody.

Case FIR No. 15/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in P/S Kheerbhawani and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

General public of the areas have appreciated the action of joint teams and have urged the authorities to continue this drive in nearby areas also.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against such anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
