Fulfil promise of statehood for J&K: Ishfaq Jabbar to Centre

Srinagar: National conference Senior leader and former member of Legislative assembly from Ganderbal on Tuesday demanded to restore statehood status to the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here Mr Jabbar said that Prime Minister Narendera Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should fulfill the promise of granting statehood to the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir which they promise on the floor of the house.

Mr Jabbar appericiates the efforts of LG Shri Manoj Sinha and said we may have the best of bureaucratic set-up also but it can never be an alternative to a democratic set-up that is answerable to the people. They may be very good at giving presentations but nothing is happening in reality.

Ishfaq said that the enemies are sitting on our heads, and under the circumstance the government should strive to win the hearts of locals, strengthen its hands and restore its statehood.

Mr Jabbar said that said each individual in Jammu and Kashmir wanted the restoration of statehood and said that the case of Article 370 and Article 35A is in court and only Parliament or the Supreme Court can restore these provisions and our fight will continue in democratic way,” he said.

Nothing is good on the ground. The administration is defunct. There is no development taking place. Let a team assess the ground situation beyond the computerised representations,” Mr. Jabbar added in the statement.
