GMC Bla organises Blood Donation cum Awareness camp to commemorate ‘World Blood Donor Day’

Principal GMC Prof (Dr) Ruby Reshi Donated blood as the first donor

BARAMULLA, JUNE 14: To mark the commemoration of ‘World Blood Donor Day’ being observed every year on 14th of June, Government Medical College Baramulla today organized a blood donation cum awareness camp in which faculty members of GMC, medical staff and other paramedicos showed their enthusiastic participation.

Camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar wherein the Principal of GMC Prof (Dr) Ruby Reshi donated her blood as the first donor.

In his address, the DC commended the organizers for conducting the programme and said that such events play an important role in rendering humanitarian services to the people in distress. He advocated for continuing such activities in different regions of the district so as to supplement the efforts of the health department in delivering patient and medicare services.

He also appealed to various stakeholders to come forward in the current crucial circumstances and extend their helping hand for the betterment of the society at large.

Complimenting the participants who donated their blood, the Principal said that blood donation not only saves lives of others but also keeps one self healthy as it gets regenerated within a short duration of time.

She added that the health department in collaboration with different stakeholders is playing a pivotal role in view of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic adding that GMC’s virology lab has augmented its range of operation so as to deal effectively with the ongoing crisis that emerged due to the 2nd wave.

She further said that several initiatives are being taken to strengthen the blood bank of the college and informed that 40 points were donated during todays camp.

Medical Superintendent, Dr Syed Masood, SP Baramulla, Medical  officers, among other concerned functionaries were also  present on the occasion.
