Police arrests two drug peddlers; Huge quantity of contraband substances recovered

June 30: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla & Anantnag districts and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, on credible information regarding drug peddling in Nengerpora area of Kunzer, a Police party from Police Station Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg raided the specific location. During search, officers recovered 14 Kgs of Poppy Straw from the residential house of Tariq Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Qadir Ganie resident of Ganie Mohalla Nengerpora Kunzer. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the said accused person was involved in supplying drugs among the youth of the area.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kunzer and investigation has been taken up.

Similarly in Anantnag, officers from PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Karkidal Bijbehara intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB10CH-1406 with one person on board. He has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Mantoo son of Mohd Ismail Mantoo resident of Takya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara. During search, officers were able to recover 45 Kgs of poppy straw from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 192/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
