Contraband substance & illicit liquor recovered
July 08: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a drug peddler & a bootlegger in Anantnag and recovered contraband substance & illicit liquor from their possession.
Officers from Police Post Sangam at a checkpoint established at Sangam Chowk intercepted a suspicious person identified as Tawseef Ahmad son of Gh Hassan resident of Pujteng Bijbehara. During checking, officers were able to recover 12 bottles of codeine phosphate and 10 grams heroin from his possession.
Meanwhile, Police party of Police Station Mattan at a checkpoint established at Kehribal Mattan intercepted one person identified as Mohd Iqbal Raina son of Gh Mohd Raina resident of Kehribal Mattan. On checking, 40 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession.
They have been arrested and shifted to respective Police Stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers/ anti social elements in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in anti social activities will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
