Advisory issued in wake of expected 3 day rainfall Concerned Departments asked to be alert

Srinagar, July 19: District Administration Srinagar has issued advisory asking field departments to be alert after the Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Centre, Srinagar issued Weather Warning of moderate to heavy rain, thunder with lightening from 19th to 21st of July 2021 at most places of Jammu and Kashmir including District Srinagar.

   The advisory issued by District Development Commissioner Srinagar reads that; “Whereas, as per forecast, weather system may most likely result in moderate to high-risk floods, temporary disruption of surface traffic, water logging and minor floods over low lying areas and landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places. Therefore, in view of the alert of Regional Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, all Concerned Departments viz; Irrigation and Flood Control, PHE, R&B, PWD, PDD and SMC shall make necessary preparedness and mobilize their resources, field staff on a war footing basis without any further delay.”

    The advisory reads that all Tehsildars and other Field agencies shall disseminate information to general public for necessary precautions and particularly the Migratory population which normally put up their huts/camps in higher reaches. “Also, population residing along river banks must be warned for Flash Flood like situation.”

   Pertinently, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir due to the impact of fresh wet spell that started from July 19 today.

   As per the weather department, lower and middle level tropospheric winds from north Arabian Sea is most likely to interact with Easterly Winds from July 19 to July 21, likely causing widespread rain at most places in Jammu and Kashmir.

   Most places of Jammu, mainly in Pir Panjal Range and plains of Jammu division, are likely to see widespread heavy to very heavy rain, thunder with lightning from July 19 to July 21, while Kashmir may see moderate to heavy rain, thunder with lightning during the same period, according to IMD.

   The weather department has warned that heavy rain may cause flash floods in J&K, landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places, along with waterlogging and minor floods over low-lying areas. (KNT)
