The predicted heavy rains could also not dampen the sporting spirits of young Grand Masters from nearby villages of Pohrupet Sect AOR. With an aim to engage the local youth positively, effectively and to bring out the hidden talent in the field of Chess, Army Camp, Watergam organised a Chess Finals on International Chess Day.
A total of Four Finalists from Langate, Watergam, Sopore and Bhagatpura RR Bns participated in the closely contested finals by giving tough competition to each other and displaying true sportsman spirit. Apart from the four finalists 15 other young children were present as spectators.
Detls of Winners and Runners Up are as under:
1. Winner – Cat I : Syed Momin From AOR of Langait RR. Momin has a talent and flair for chess and defeated Khalid Ayub who is a National Level Chess Player.
2. Winner – Cat II – : Sajad Ahmad from AOR of Watargam RR. Sajad has a potential to improve in Distt and State Level Competitions.
3. Runner Up – Cat I : Khalid Ayub Dar from AOR of Sopore RR. Khalid is a Natl Level Chess Player who has played in Natl Tournament at Telengana.
4. Runner Up – Cat II : Fazil Amin from AOR of Bhagatpura RR. Fazil has flair for Chess and further improve his skills to improve his talent.
All participants were given Cash prizes to motivate them.
The local youth including AWAAM expressed their gratitude and thanked Army for taking such an initiative.
