The FDP is entrenched with theoretical and practical opportunities: Prof. Sehgal
Srinagar, July 28: The week-long Faculty Development (FDP) programme on non-destructive testing and evaluation started on Wednesday at Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
The FDP is a part of a massive country-wide rollout of training and learning opportunity sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) through its Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, HOD MED Prof. Sheikh Nazir Ahmad while guest of honor for the session was Mr. Avinash Tikku, International Faculty of Art of Living.
Prof. Sehgal echoed the significance of non-destructive testing, evaluation and congratulated the organizing body for such a distinctive course.
“The program is entrenched with theoretical and practical opportunities for the attendees. The uniqueness of the course in terms of amalgamating industrial professionals with academicians on an international platform,” he said.
The Director NIT Srinagar presented the current potential of the institution to virtual attendees in terms of academic milestones.
In his message, Registrar NIT, Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said these FDP are the need of the hour. Such initiatives by the ME department are unique and highly appreciable, he said.
Prof. Bukhari said in future NIT Srinagar will also conduct these programs to boost the teaching, learning capabilities.
Head of ME Department, Prof. Sheikh Nazir Ahmad applauded all the participants and the organizing committee members of the course. He emphasized on the importance of NDT & E and its application to various fields of engineering with some specific examples pertaining to aerospace engineering.
Dr. M. Mursaleen, Assistant Professor, ME Department is the coordinator of the week-long program, Dr. Harveer Singh Pali, Assistant Professor and Dr. Mohammad Mohsin Khan, Assistant Professor NIT Srinagar are the co-coordinators of the event. While Mr Shabir Ahmad Sofi is the technical advisor and Institute Coordinator for the course.
Earlier the course was inaugurated by coordinator Dr. Mohammad Mursaleen, who briefed about the objectives of NDT and E, program schedule, resource persons and topics of the expert talk.
He said resource personnel for the course are highly experienced from reputed institutes of National and International ranks and it will boost the participants.
The inaugural session was hosted by eminent speaker, Er. Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad who is Branch Manager, Nardoni Institute of Advanced NDT, Branch Office Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
He enlightened the participants about the basics and fundamentals of Non-destructive testing. He described various NDT Techniques and its industrial applications.
Er. Shiekh briefly discussed the basics of ultrasonic testing and its applications in inspection of components and in oil pipelines. UPV applications in testing of concrete structures was also discussed. Other NDT techniques used in industry were also discussed during the session.
The week-long program consists of 14 planned online training hours and its uniqueness is that it brings forth theoretical and practical sessions virtually to the participants. By providing the coverage of actual case studies and live lab test demonstration from IITs in India and University of Strathclyde in UK.
The course has been registered by 200 candidates from IITs, NITs and other universities across the country.
