July 29: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Anantnag have arrested a drug peddler and seized huge quantity of contraband substances.
Police Station Mattan received an information through reliable sources that one person namely Mohd Shafi Najar son of Gh Mohammad Najar resident of Mattipora Nanil has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of contrabands in his residential house.
Accordingly a police party headed by SHO Police station Mattan alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the specific location. During search, 500Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the residential house of said person. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Mattan and investigation was taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
