Expedite formulation of brief documents of Wetlands: DC Gbl to Officers

GANDERBAL, AUGUST 02: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna today took a detailed review of initiatives taken for formulation of brief documents under Wetland Rules, 2017 for three main Wetland of Manasbal Lake, Waskurasar and Ahansar located in the district.

ADC Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba, DFO Sindh, CEO Manasbal Development Authority, Ex. Engineer Jal Shakti (I & FC), AD Fisheries, District Pollution Officer, and other concerned were present in the meeting.

The DC took brief from the concerned regarding preparation of brief document of all three wetlands and emphasized upon the concerned officers to expedite the process of formulation of brief document so that exercise is completed at an earliest.

She urged all the concerned  officers/officials to play an active role in  rejuvenation and restoration of these historical Water bodies in the district to achieve visible impact on ground.

It was informed in the meeting that most of the work related to data compilation has been completed and the delineation of water bodies and mapping is about to be completed.

The DC directed for coordination of all the stakeholders for early completion of the exercise which will be a helpful guide for planning, general public and researchers.

Experts from the Department of Environment, University of Kashmir gave a brief detail about the progress and implementation of action plan for brief document preparation.

She also directed concerned to expedite removal of encroachments and dumping of garbage in water bodies and called for massive awareness generation on the importance  of wetland preservation.

Domain experts Dr Tasneem Keng, Scientist Department of Env. & Ecology, Dr Shabir Ahmed Scientist J&K PCC, Shabir Ahmed I/C ICT Forests were also present in the meeting.
