In wake of the highly successful Jashn-e-Azadi celebrations organised by The Indian Army in Gurez to commemorate the glorious 75 years of independence, a paragliding demonstration was conducted today at Dawar, Gurez with an aim to acquaint Gurezis with the sport and motivate them to pursue it as a means of livelihood.
The flight was conducted by a team of two expert lady instructors, from PG Gurukul paragliding academy at Bir Billing, Himachal Pradesh under the guidance of Mr Gurpreet Singh Dhindsa, an internationally acclaimed para gliding instructor who has represented the country in various international events including the Paragliding World Cup. He fosters a dream to develop Gurez as a paragliding destination and develop Razdan top as a paragliding hub akin to the famous Bir Billing in Himachal. He has previously conducted a test flight in Gurez on 15 July 2021 during the Gurez festival and a cross country flight from the Razdan top to the Cricket Stadium in Bandipora which so Gurez valley which has recently emerged as a sought after tourist destination also has immense potential to be developed as an Adventure tourism hub with activities such as paragliding, rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, trekking and camping to attract more tourists, thereby providing multiple avenues for employment for the economical backward Awam of Gurez.
