Dozens of domestic animals died, due to foot-mouth disease in Sopore outskirts

Sopore, August 28: An outbreak of infectious disease known as foot and mouth disease (FMD) have left dozens of domestic animals dead in outskirts of north kashmir’s Sopore.

According to reports the FMD erupted among the domestic animals in Botingoo, Muqam, Cherhaar, Janwara and Rampora Rajpora area of Zaingeer belt in Sopore left dozens of animals, mainly cows dead and hundreds were fallen ill due to this disease.

Locals said that one side administration has made announcements to boost the livestock industry, but were fails to address the problems faced by Farmers at grassroots level.

A local resident Mushtaq Ahmad Koul of Botingoo said, ” About Half dozen cows died and Scores were fallen ill due to this infectious Foot- Mouth disease in his village and ironically, no medical facilities have been provided so far even after the outbreak of the disease and the situation has been worsened.

Locals from other various villages said that they have lost their cows as their livelihood is directly depends on the animals. They also demanded compensation to the affected farmers and have also appealed to animal husbandry department Sopore to visit the areas and vaccinate the animals so that disease won’t spread further.
