Srinagar, Mar 28 Seven more persons were on Saturday tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir valley, bringing the total number of infected people to 20. An official told UNI that seven people tested positive for Coronavirus on Saturday. “One of them had recently come back from abroad,” they said, adding four others have come in contact with a Coronavirus positive patient, who died on Thursday.
They said the other two had recently come back from Mumbai. Confirming the development, J&K Union Territory spokesperson Rohit Kansal said seven more positive cases in Srinagar on Saturday. “Four cases had history of contact with already positive cases of religious congregation, other three have travel history outside J&K,” he said.
Giving details, sources said a 56-year-old man, a resident of Jawaharnagar in Srinagar, who has travel history to Indonesia, was tested positive at CD hospital. “Four persons from Hajin in Bandipora were also tested positive. They had come in contact with the 65-year-old man, who was the first person to die of the virus on Thursday,” they said.
They said a couple from Ahmad Nagar in Srinagar that recently returned from Mumbai also tested positive for the virus.
On Friday, two patients are from Chattabal while two others from Bemina in Srinagar were tested positive for Coronavirus. Two minor siblings also from Srinagar were tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday, when a 65-year-old Hyderpora resident became the first person to die due to deadly infection in J&K.
On Wednesday, four persons, who had met the 65-year-old patient during an event in the valley, were tested positive for Coronavirus. Meanwhile, about 48 persons, who came in contact with the Hyderpora resident, have been put in quarantine centres.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Saturday said that in view of many COVID-19 positive cases in Srinagar, ‘contact tracing’ holds the key to avoid further spread. “Surveillance teams complain reluctance in some cases and urged people to be truthful, cooperative and responsible,” he said.
The Srinagar administration has already warned that the actual cases in community could probably be more than those tested positive for Coronavirus and urged people to remain indoors. The administration on Friday launched a new website ‘Talaash’, which enables people to self-report or report students and travelers who have concealed their travel history to Coronavirus affected countries. The development came days after authorities asserted that people are not disclosing their travel history. Around 150 persons, who were hiding travel histories, have been so far traced and put into quarantine.
Restrictions on movement and assembly of people were on Saturday further intensified as more positive Coronavirus cases have surfaced in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley, where streets and markets remained deserted for the tenth successive day due to lock down.
