Srinagar, Mar 28 World famous ski resort Gulmarg and other upper reaches received, including border towns of Keran and Karnah in north Kashmir, received snow for the second day on Saturday while skies were cloudy in plains, resulting in chilly weather conditions.
The night temperature also dipped across the valley and settled below normal across the valley, where another spell of wet weather is predicted from March 31.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI light rain would occur during the next 24 hours under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
However, he said a fresh WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, would hit J&K on March 31. “A weather warning has been issued for March 31 and April 1 during which thundershowers with gusty winds (30-40 km per hour) would occur at isolated places in Kashmir,” he added.
Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, received intermittent snow since early Friday morning, resulting in further dip in the day temperature. Kongdori and Apharwat, the highest point of the cable car project in Gulmarg, also received light snowfall. However, Gulmarg, which is known for its ski slopes and the quality of snow, is deserted due to the lock down to curtain spread of Coronavirus.
Fresh snowfall was also witnessed in border towns of Keran and Karnah early on Saturday morning. Light snowfall was also recorded in the main Kupwara town.
Incessant overnight rain lashed summer capital, Srinagar, resulting in dip in the night temperature, which settled about 5 degree below normal. People woke up to chilly and cloudy skies in the city, which remained under lock down for the 10th successive day to curb spreading of Coronavirus. The skies remained cloudy throughout the day, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature.The Met spokesperson told UNI that skies would be general to partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 14 degree and 3 degree, respectively.
The skies were cloudy in world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, resulting in dip in the day temperature. However, the upper reaches in Pahalgam, including Chandanwari, received very light snowfall. Amarnath cave shine and its periphery, besides Sheshnag, Mahagung, Pisso top and Panjterni, also received light snowfall.
