Bandipora, Oct 30 : Unscheduled power cuts in Bandipora town and its adjacent areas are giving a tough time to the residents, while authorities are sleeping over the grave issue, resulting into a lot of inconveniences to the general public.

Locals expressed strong resentment against the power development department (PDD) for failing to provide uninterrupted and scheduled power supply to their localities.

“There are unscheduled powers cuts in both metered and non-metered areas and the consumers have been left to lurch, while authorities are unmoved even after being intimated several times,” they said, while talking to Kashmir News Service

The residents of various localities of town including main market, Nowpora, Gamroo, Arin, Lowdara, Papchan, Kaloosa, Muslim Abad, Naz Colony, Panzigam and other areas said that they have to face frequent and unscheduled power cuts on a daily basis.

They said that they have appealed to the authorities several times but to no avail as the department has failed to restore regular power supply to the areas.

“We have never witnessed such power cuts throughout. If PDD is unable to provide uninterrupted scheduled power supply then they don’t have the right to charge us for electricity,” said Fayaz Ahmad, a local resident.

He said that they do not receive proper power supply as per schedule and frequent power cuts have become a daily routine now.

The worst unscheduled power cuts, according to the residents, are being observed especially from the last one month. “The power supply in Bandipora and its adjacent areas is worsening with each passing day,” they said.

“We are being deprived of our basic right even after paying over Rs 1400 as monthly electricity bill. The administration should think about the fact that despite the Putushai grid station being functional they do not provide electricity to the consumers as per schedule,” they said.

Meanwhile, the residents have urged the PDD authorities and district administration to strengthen power infrastructure in the district and resolve the power crisis in the area.

When contacted, a PDD official of Bandipora division said that overloading is the main cause of frequent power cuts within the town, while the department is doing every possible thing to provide uninterrupted power supply to these areas.
