Handwara, June 28: The family of former law maker Engineer Rasheed Sunday demanded that Rasheed should be released form Tihar Jail where he is languishing for the fault of his none. They believe, Rasheed was booked in a fabricated case just to keep him silent as he was very vocal and talked about the rights of people of Kashmir.

While talking to News Agency KNT, Sheikh Abrar, the son of incarcerated leader castigated central government for not releasing his father.

He questioned that why his father Engineer Rashid is not being released or shifted to any jail in Srinagar when almost all the politicians have been set free.

“It is very unfortunate that no politician from Kashmir Valley demanded his release. Neither Farooq Abdullah, nor his son Omar Abdullah or any other leader pitched for my father’s release even though they know it very well that Engineer Rasheed was implicated in a false case,” Abrar said.

“Those who used to call my father a ‘dram-baz’ should understand now that Engineer Rasheed could be raised hue and cry over the abrogation of Article 370 and issuance of domicile certificates to non-state subjects. Why those leaders who are enjoying freedom now are silent over domicile certificate row,” Sheikh Abrar asked.

Sheikh Abrar told Kashmir News Trust that his father always lived and raised voice for common masses which ultimately landed him in jail in August 2019.

Engineer Rashid’s father Khazir Muhammad said that the spike in corona virus cases in Tihar jail has mentally tormented them and they are worried about Rashid’s health.

Khazir Muhammad questioned political and civil society leaders for remaining mum over Rasheed’s continuous detention in Tihar Jail. “My son was a law maker not a criminal. Government should either release him or shift him to Srinagar Jail,” the father of Rasheed told KNT.
